Hands in the Dirt

I had three wonderful days off of school. At first I couldn't decide what to do first...read? Plant?? Then it all fell into place. A little cleaning, some reading and then garden work. There is nothing like getting your fingers into the dirt. Gloves??? Yes, they are in the garage somewhere. My new plants are very happy in their habitat. I did much research to ensure they were in the place they would be "happy".
I am trying to attract butterflies and hummingbirds this season. This means I will also attract bees and other nectar seeking insects. They will just have to learn to get along with each other.

Isn't this the meaning of "habitat"? We are so used to living in our own region, neighborhood , family.
Can we include the predators? How about those sqirmy things that enrich the environnment?

Hmmm...food for thought.

Growing Pains

I experienced growing pains today. Tyler rode his skateboard to school which is a l-0-o-0ng way! (I'll be sure to set my odometer to get an accurate measure)

He took the cell phone and called me a few times along the way. Daddy left "six minutes" later and followed him "just to make sure".

Tyler said it was one of the best days of his life :-)

What more can a Mom ask for?

Peeps... you know 'em--you love 'em. They are our favorite Easter treat. They come in various chick and bunny colors. Best thing, they are Fat Free!

Don't be fooled by imitations though. Rumor has it that Martha Stewart has come out with a "Counterfeit Peep". Is nothing sacred?? Ask for I.D.

Don't accept an imitation!

Sure, they might look alike, even taste alike, but NOTHING can duplicate the factory produced, mass packaged taste of the ORIGINAL Peep!

Spring Forward

We went to the Dollar Store after work today and when we were walking to the car I noticed it was almost 7:00! Tyler and I hadn't even had dinner yet and here we were just shopping away like it was mid-afternoon. My father recently told me that all of us kids went to bed at 7:00 every night. Sorry Dad, I don't remember that part of growing up :-)

Anyway, I'm happy to be welcoming Spring. Everywhere we look trees and flowers are blooming. The lake level is very high and there is still a bit of snow on the higher mountains in the distance. The weather is perfect during the day and the evenings are cool.

Feel free to remind me of this several months from now when the temps are in the 100's and the lake is stinky. For now I'll just go sit on the deck with my bottle of water and watch the sun go down.

I'm reading a very good book titled "Inside Alzheimer's", (How to Hear and Honor Connections with a Person who has Dementia)

One thing I'm learning is, no matter what our physical or mental condition, we are still whole and beautiful to God, our Maker. We strive for wholeness, oneness, peace, beauty...

Truth is, that is exactly how God sees us right now, through the eyes of His Son. Can we let go of the preconceived notion of how we should look and just rejoice in the fact that we are loved just as we are?

Family Dinner

Here are two of my favorite people at our dinner table. Auntie Irene and Uncle David came to visit tonight along with Mom and Dad.

Al grilled yummy chicken kabobs and lots of veggies. We served them over rice and had strawberry shortcake for dessert.
Here we are right before they left to go back to their hotel.
