We've Got The Blues

Not like you'd think! The time of red and green seems to pass
all too soon :-( The Christmas season ends abruptly!
My solution is to introduce blue and white. Winter is gorgeous! I add
touches of blue and white into our home to ease us into the next colorful holiday,
Valentine's Day!

Somehow the calming effects of ice blue and white just seem to carry me through
the bleak January days. Our 37th Anniversary is January 30th. Nothing bleak
about that!!

Seasons Eatings

I spent the day baking as you can tell :-)
There are jam thumbprints, fudge, peppermint meringues,
chocolate and vanilla shortbread, and anise crisps.
Of course everyone knows there aren't any calories in
Christmas cookies ~~ right?

Christmas at Deerwood

Today was the Christmas party at Deerwood where Mom lives.
Here are Mom and Mary having a "little snack". I caught Mary just as she was getting ready to spread some dip on a cracker. I should have taken the "after" picture. The dip was spicy hot and Mary's face turned a lovely shade of red. She went back for more!

Here is the very caring staff.
Back row: Tina, Sue & Larinda
Front Row: Danielle and Michaela

Mom and I in the family room. I asked her if she had enough energy to stand in front of the tree and she promptly said "No".
We had a great afternoon.

Tea for Two

My friend Kim came for tea this afternoon.
We had candy cane tea, palmiers and fresh out
of the oven chocolate chip cookies.
It was a sweet time of fellowship :-)

Adventures With Santa

Erik is our little eight month old friend who comes to our house every Monday and Wednesday morning while his Mommy teaches at Konocti Christian Academy.
Since he learned to crawl and pull himself up to a stand nothing (or no one) is safe~~including Santa! Erik found Santa's bell and then the message he belts out if you squeeze his hand!

Just look at this little cutie. It's hard to imagine
what kind of trouble he could get into :-}

Deck the Halls

Welcome to our home!
Step right in where it's warm.

We are expecting snow tonight. We live right by the lake and the mountains are already dusted with powder. It's a little unusual for us to have snow here in town but we welcome it anyway!

New Favorite

Just when I think I have found my very favorite tea, I come across another flavor.
Lizzie sent me Caramel Apple. Then I discovered Pumpkin Spice and Chocolate Chai (not on my list of favorites). Today I found Coconut Chai. I am in organic tea heaven with this one!
A Hallmark movie, a cup of tea, the Christmas lights...does it get any better than this??
On a somber note...my dear friend just lost yet another child. There are friends with depression, loneliness, cancer, heartache...Oh Come Oh Come Emanuel.

Baking With Friends

My little friends Ashley and Anna came over today to bake.
Anna brought her own apron. She was quite comfortable in the kitchen.
Her little brother has his own apron also.

Ashley is wearing my apron. Her mom used to own a restaurant and
catering business. Holding a mixer was just so natural for her.

Ahh, the finished product. I really didn't help all that much. I helped them read the recipe and handled the oven part of the process.
At one point during the afternoon I whispered a quiet thank you to God for giving me such a lavish gift as an afternoon baking with friends.

A visit with Grandma

Chris and Kiah came up to visit Grandma today.
Kiah made everyone at Deerwood happy. Well almost everyone. There is one lady who is only happy when I bring her chocolate :-)
They have a big, beautiful tree in the family room and stockings on the fireplace in the formal living room.

A Little Night Magic

Tyler and I made our annual trek down Main Street tonight to visit the Dickens' Christmas Market. While very commercial in nature it is fun to see friends and eat kettlecorn!
The weather was perfect~~not freezing cold or rainy as in years past.
As we were walking back we noticed Jupiter and Venus just hanging out together in the sky.
They are incredibly bright and beautiful. Since I began the Beth Moore Bible study, Jesus the One and Only, I am looking to the sky more at night just as the shepherds would have.
I fuss over our decorations and lights while God hangs the stars in the heavens "just so".
Emanuel, God with us.

Blessed~~Even More

The blessings just keep coming. My friend Kim brought all kinds of "warmers" to help me through my Fibromyalgia pain. Thank you dear ones.

Blessed Beyond Measure

I am blessed beyond measure. Just look at all these cards and presents from my loved ones.
Thank you ~~ Everyone for your birthday greetings.

Dessert for Dinner?

I made caramel apple pork chops for dinner tonight. Oh Yum!
It's almost like having dessert for dinner.
Not only is this recipe super easy but it is soo tasty. It would be equally
good with boneless chicken breast (maybe better because I tend to overcook pork).
I received the recipe in my inbox because I subscribe to the Family Fun newsletter.
Try it~~you'll like it!

The "Before"

Did you have any idea I was such a slob?
Just look at this broom closet!
I could have a skeleton in here and not even know it!
We emptied out the entire closet today.

Stay tuned for the "After"

Little Leaf Rakers

Our little friends, and neighbors stopped by to "help" us rake leaves yesterday.
Bella took to the leaves right away

Noah had a "neat and clean" plan (remind you of anyone Eric?)
" O.K. this pile is just about right"

Bella had that free spirited~~"Just throw the leaves attitude"

Ahh...now THAT'S FUN!!!
What you don't see is all the times Bella told her Grammy, "I didn't mean to throw leaves in Noah's eyes...and I said, I'm sorry...and I won't do it again..."

One Foot in Each Season

Our yard can't decide which season to be in!
The leaves are collecting in the rain barrel

and on the lawn
But...

The veggies are giving us their last offerings :-)
I just love this time of year!

Tyler's Party

Punch Ball Wars!
I told Claire there are more pictures of her on my camera than anyone else.
She took several of herself while I was in picking up the pizza :-)

Birthday boy with his party hat on.

Lots of pizza and laughs. Alex is laughing so hard his face is blurry!

Happy Birthday Tyler!

Happy Birthday Tyler!
Wow, 13 already :-)
We all remember the day you were born. You were in a hurry to meet everyone. I had only been at the hospital a short time before you decided you were ready to announce your arrival. Emy and Lizzie were in the hallway and heard you cry :-}
Now thirteen years later, you are intelligent, kind, funny and a true blessing to our entire family. We can't imagine life without you!

Open Doors

Don't we just love an open door policy? We go the extra mile to decorate our front door complete with a wreath, welcome mat and plants.
I've had an education in open doors this weekend. It seems my mother's roommate has started to open the door to their room (that leads out to a deck) every night after everyone is asleep.
My Mom is freezing cold in the morning!
Mary (Mom's roommate) doesn't even realize she is leaving the door open all night. Temps are dropping into the 40's now and will go lower as Fall gives way to Winter.
Not only that but, they live in a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly, way out in the country. Mary or Mom, or any other resident, could wander out into the hills and be lost forever!
Oy Vey!

Knit One, Save One

" Four million babies die each year within the first month of life in poor countries. Save the Children and the Warm Up America Foundation have joined forces to encourage people who knit and crochet to make hats for newborns. This simple solution, which provides warmth to newborn babies can help improve the survival rate. "
There are free patterns at the Lion Brand website for easy to make hats. The suggestion is to make the hats in the small or preemie sizes because the babies have low birth weights.
I knit a few hats last year and donated them to our local yarn shop who then distributed them to area hospitals.

Game Night

Tyler and I had a "Game Night" tonight. We played Scrabble together. Everything got off to a great start until we started getting the dreaded X, Q, and Z's. Tyler is a very strategic player. He makes the most of the double and triple word spaces!
He wants to play Monopoly next. I can just see myself in the Poor House! I know this is one game he will win with lots of money in the bank :-)
